Mt. Zion Breakfast

Mt. Zion United Methodist Church is the oldest church of the former United Brethren denomination in the Tennessee conference. It is not know the date of the first building, but is is known that a log building was erected during the time of the civil war.

On February 27, 1866 the first lot was deeded to Mt. Zion United Brethren Church. On this lot, stood a log building that was to be used as a house of worship. It is recorded that the second annual Tennessee Conference was held here on November 9, 1867. This building was used until May 11, 1947.

On April 1, 1946 ground was broken to begin construction on the beautiful sanctuary which stands today. It took a little over a year to complete, with a cost of $23,025.09.  The church dedication was held on September 28, 1947.

With a congregation that was continuing to grow, especially with children and youth, a new need was seen by the church. In 1999 planning began on a new annex for the church to serve as additional Sunday School classes and an area for other church events. After several years of prayer, planning, and preparation Mt Zion opened the doors to its new Fellowship Center.  Since then it has been used from many uses; Sunday School classrooms, Community wide breakfast events, church dinners, private parties, and in 2011 after serveral tornado damaged many homes in neighboring communities Mt. Zion was able to use the building to house serveral out of state mission teams.

Mt. Zion UMC has been blessed in several different ways over the years and look forward to what God has planned for us in the years to come.  If you do not have a home church or are currently looking for a new place to worship, we would love for you to come visit our "Little Country Church with a Great Big God Size heart."
